The Journey Begins in Real Time...

I was reminded by an online friend (Hi, Catherine! *waving*) yesterday that the story that takes place within A Summer in Europe begins on June 26th, which is the main character's 30th birthday. I'd nearly forgotten this detail -- amidst all of the craziness and general chaos of my day-to-day life -- but then I checked the pages and not only remembered that the dates aligned, but so do the days of the week, since I used the 2012 calendar when I drafted the novel.

It's a funny thing, getting to begin a journey with my characters now, in real time, that I've already written for them in anticipation of this summer... ;)

Anyway, I have a few fun photos to share of events from this month. A panel shot from Printers Row (with Karen Doornebos, Elisabeth Lenckos, Abigail Reynolds, me, Regena Bryant and C. Allyn Pierson), and a picture of Karen and me with William Deresiewicz, author of A JANE AUSTEN EDUCATION during his signing.

I've also got a few snapshots of my travel program at the Waukegan Public Library, which was tons of fun!! Such a great group of patrons, friends and librarians there that night. To the right, I'm with the lovely programs librarian, Sara. Have a fabulous week, everyone! Here are some other pictures from the meal, talk and signing:

That looks like great fun. I love it that your friend remembered your character's birthday! I sometimes forget my brothers and sisters birthdays.

It sounds like you've been having a great June. I hope the rest of the summer will be as wonderful.

Thank you for reminding me to call my dad and wish him a happy birthday! I told him last night when he visited, but he'd probably appreciate hearing it again. (Yes, today is his birthday.) Anyway, how cool that the book begins TODAY. That probably lends a fun feeling to the whole day.

Great pictures, too! Looks like lots of fun.

Edie, thank you! And LOL about forgetting the birthdays of brothers and sisters ;). I would be in trouble if I forgot my brother's b-day, since he's the only sibling I have (!!), but I know my parents, who each come from families of 5 or 6 kids, have a harder time keeping them all straight...

Jill, I'm so excited that you're rereading it AND that you get to go somewhere on vacation!! Hope you have a wonderful time :).

Pamela, *smooch*! It's so good to hear from you. The summer has been pretty overwhelmingly busy (we're still in the never-ending of moving my father-in-law into his new place and cleaning out his old one...), but it's really nice not to have to deal with the schedule of a school year!

Caryn, how cool!! Happy birthday to your dad! My dad's birthday was yesterday, and we celebrated over the weekend but, in my family, birthday celebrations continue for at least a week ;).

Catherine, LOL!! You really brightened my day! Gwen sends you a hug and lots of cake. Richard, however, is hiding out at the office, avoiding the S&M Club members tonight and hoping you don't tell anyone else about his bad behavior at lunch... xo

Robin,
I wish we lived closer, too, just so we could get together for breakfast sometimes... ;)
Hope you had a wonderful 4th and a great start to July as well!!
