Copy-Edits & Cover Art
Spring break had us out of the house and on the road for much of this past week...but I came home to two very exciting things: the copy-edits for A Summer in Europe were at my door and the book's brand-new cover art was in my inbox. SQUEEE!!!
I just want to throw myself into the picture and meander around that lake in the sunshine...sigh. The Kensington catalogue for September - December 2011 is also out now, and it was included in the packet with my copy-edits. Here's how the wonderful marketing team described my book:
Marilyn Brant, author of the acclaimed ACCORDING TO JANE, transports readers across the pond on a grand journey of self-awakening amidst the classic architecture and stunning vistas of Europe -- and a young woman discovers that the ancient wonders around her are nothing compared to the renaissance unfolding within...
On her 30th birthday, Gwendolyn Reese is given an unusual gift by her eccentric aunt: a summer grand European tour arranged through her aunt's Sudoku and Mahjongg Club. Gwen reluctantly leaves her "almost fiancé" and heads to Europe with her aunt and a collection of offbeat club members.
Abroad, Gwen is slowly but surely transformed. She has conversations she'd never expected, is spellbound by London theater, touches a glacier, races through the Louvre, and shares a passionate kiss with a wild young physics professor. And when her old life comes calling again, she must choose between the practical choices she's always made, and a world open to infinite possibilities...
I am so, so excited about this story... Thanks for letting me share a little about it with all of you. *g*

Congratulations!!! The cover is beautiful and that catalog description/backcover blurb is so enticing that I can't wait to read it. I'm very excited for you!!!
I LOVE that cover. Even if I didn't know you, I'd buy it for that cover alone. And they did a great job on the description too. I'm eager for this to be out so I can read it.
Marilyn, I LOVE the cover! And the back cover copy is fantastic too. I can't wait to read this book. It sounds so fantastic!
Oh, Marilyn, it's GORGEOUS!!! I bet you were so excited when you saw it.
Virginia, Judy, Pamala, Edie, Maria and Caryn ~ THANK YOU all so much!!! I couldn't contain my excitement when I saw it -- in part because I thought it was so pretty and in part because I was sure I'd have to wait another two months before it got here... I was *really* surprised to see it already finished! And I can't tell you how much I appreciate that I could share it with you and you'd take the time to comment so soon and be excited with me -- esp. this early on a Saturday morning!!
Hope you all have a WONDERFUL weekend!

WOW. That is one gorgeous cover. Congratulations!
And... you won one of my books!
Let me know which one you prefer. :)
Fabulosity!!!
Maureen, I won one?! Ohhh, YAY!!! That's awesome -- thank you! Will email you about it ;).
Thanks so much, Susan!!!
Stunning!Absolutley stunning!
Marilyn! The cover is gorgeous! I want to leap into the picture. And the blurb is awesome. I can't wait to read this book!! So thrilled for you!
Tonya, thank you!!
Robin, thanks so much ;). I think we should go on a trip -- if only I could figure out a way to leap into a picture!
Marilyn,
What a fabulous cover! The back cover blurb is so intriguing - I can't wait to read your book!
Congratulations!
Laurie P.
That'll teach me to get off the web for a weekend--I miss such pretty pretty news as your cover. Oh, Marilyn, it's GORGEOUS!!! Once again, the cover gods smile at you. Congrats!!!
Laurie, thank you so much! The copy wizards at Kensington are responsible for the blurb -- I loved the way they encapsulated the story ;).
Pamela, thanks, my friend :). I love those cover gods...or, rather, goddesses. I don't have the actual cover flap yet -- just the jpeg -- but Kristine Mills-Noble did the other two covers, so she's probably the one who designed this one, too. I adore her!
I got chills reading the book blurb, and I LOVE the cover. Oh, Marilyn, you must be thrilled!
Love it! Is that Italy? MG
Michelle, thank you. I *am* thrilled. It's just such a talent for someone to read an author's story and figure out how to capture the feel of it on the cover. And the person who wrote the blurb deserves a lot of credit for encapsulating the plot so well. I'm just really grateful to them both ;).
Maria, I believe it is! To me, it looks just like the northern region around Lake Como, which is one of my favorite places in the world. But you're the expert on Italy! What do you think?!
Congrats Marilyn. Beautiful cover fabulous description.
Laurel Ann, thank you so much ;).
I can't wait!! I'm posting on my blog and FB wall! So happy for you, Marilyn!!
Marilyn, What a great description of the book and look at that cover, that alone would make me pick it up, but the blurb I would read it because of the blurb. What woman wouldn't
Thanks Congrats!!! Can't wait!!
deb
Oh, this sooooo sounds like my sort of book, Marilyn -- can't wait to read it!
Jill, that was so, so thoughtful of you!! Thank you again! xox
Deb, thank YOU!! I'm really hoping a lot of readers will feel that way about it... It was a story I put a big piece of my heart into ;).
Meg, ohhh, good!!! I truly hope you'll like it!
All of you have made it SO fun for me to share the cover. THANK YOU ALL for being enthusiastic with me :).
So excited for you! The new book looks beautiful. How do you have time to keep up with the blog and twitter and all? We must get together and discuss. I need help!
Pamela, thank you! And I think you've done an amazing job juggling -- I was glad to see you on Twitter, too. Plus, you know how much I love your Examiner reviews! Hope to get to chat with you in person again sometime soon :).
