Conversations Over Coffee...and a Little Elvis Love

Happy Friday!

I'm blogging today over at Sia McKye's Thoughts Over Coffee, which is -- of course -- extra fun because Sia is such a sweetheart and because it's a Friday morning and I get to have virtual coffee there as I chat about Friday Mornings at Nine and having real-life coffee dates with friends. So much life imitating art and vice versa going on that I can barely keep it straight -- LOL! (There's a book/coffee giveaway there, too, btw. ;)

If you're looking for gifts for people on your holiday shopping list, I'm enthusiastically joining in with RWA and lots of writers to suggest BOOKS!!! Hardcover, softcover, e-book...all formats are good!

And, finally, because I was watching "Clambake" again recently (yes, it was for research purposes...and, okay, also because 1967-Elvis was very cute :), I wanted to share this video of "You Don't Know Me." Sigh. Love that song and the way he sings it with such feeling. Hope you enjoy!

p.s. Any of you have a favorite Elvis movie or song??

Oooh, I love Elvis! I love Elvis! My 1968 comeback special DVD is almost worn out! He really was a hugely gifted man.

Books have been my biggest xmas purchases so far!

Oh, love those Elvis movies! My favorite might be the one with Ann Margaret, though they're all fabulous, aren't they?

We're in Big love with the King here at Casa de Duffys. I asked my husband which was his favorite Elvis song and he frowned and started a rant about ALL the songs were his favorites, so help from that quarter.

I love all the tradition faves--Suspicious Minds, In The Ghetto, Burning Love, Kid Creole, etc. but my absolute fave is probably Viva Las Vegas. And yes, when I'm home alone with the music loud, I do the shimmy too, LOL!

Happy Friday. Mwah.

Research, huh? I LOVE old Elvis movies! And I love that hair on, is it, Shelly Fabres (sp?)

I think my fave Elvis song is Suspicious Minds;)

Ah, Marilyn...thank you for this treat today. What a great hottie vacay :) I love that you love Elvis, too.

This song is so sad and beautiful...I love it--it really shows off his tenderness, but my favorites are still the ones where you can hear that "hiccup" in his voice that's like no one else. Blue Hawaii is still my favorite because it was one I'd watch with my Mom--her favorite.

Love ya...Merry Christmas, M :)

Judy, I wish I could watch that DVD with you!! What fun ;).

Pamela, he was great with Ann Margaret...sigh. Such a different era -- I almost feel like I'm time traveling when I watch those films.

Pamala, LOL!! I can just see you dancing along with the King! XOXO and Happy Friday back at'cha!!

Maria, yes, research...we'll have to talk about Florida as a setting sometime ;-). Also, yes, to that being Shelly -- loved her long dark hair back then!

Wishing ALL of you a fantabulous weekend... I am now going to put on my 2-disc ELVIS: Command Performances CDs and sing along until the neighbors complain ;-).

L.A., xoxox. I know you're a fan, too... It's been years since I've seen Blue Hawaii (I love that you watched it with your mom!), but I know I'd enjoying seeing it again for two reasons: Elvis is wonderful in it and, also, my favorite undergrad psychology professor was an extra in the film (and he told us about the sheer delight of that experience ;).
Wishing you a joyous December!

Oh, I love that song! I love Michael Buble's version too - have you heard it? *sigh* I haven't watched an Elvis movie is sooo long - I think watching some old movies over the winter break might be fun!

Robin, I haven't heard the Michael Buble version and I *love* him!! Thanks for telling me about it...off to check it out on YouTube right now! :)

I have such a hard time picking out books for people because I never know what they have and haven't read. Does an Amazon or Barnes and Noble gift certificate count? Because I bought a few of those. :-)

Loved the blog post! My favorite Elvis song is the remix or A Little Less Conversation :-)

Marilyn Brant said...

Caryn, oh, yes! Gift certificates *definitely* count!! They (along with chocolate ;) are my favorite gifts to both get and give!

Brittany, that's a great one, too! Elvis was just amazing...so many memorable songs through the years :-).

I'm not that into Elvis. I prefer Beatles. As for gifts this year, I'm giving out Fairtrade coffee and tea.

I love the Beatles, too, Enid. Always sad remembering John -- especially today.
