National Ice Cream Day!

I can't believe I didn't actually have this date on my calendar, circled in red... Thanks to the lovely Jill Thomas, though, I can say that today is National Ice Cream Day, and I have every intention of celebrating it thoroughly!!

Thankfully, our freezer is already stocked with ice-cream sandwiches and a quart of Chocolate Brownie Chunk, but I feel I shouldn't be neglecting other favorite flavors on this special day...so we're going to have to go shopping and pick up a few more. Maybe a couple of those cute little Ben & Jerry's pints. It's been too long since I've had Phish Food or Chunky Monkey. Or some of Breyer's All-Natural Strawberry. Or Edy's Swiss Chocolate, which is the closest I can get with a national brand to my Madison favorite, Orange Custard Chocolate Chip. (The Edy's is also about 10,000 fewer calories per serving than the custard...) All I know for sure is that I'm not letting this great excuse for taste testing pass me by today.

In On Any Given Sundae news (which is far too easy to segue to given the day ;), I was thrilled to find out that the book hit Amazon's Bestsellers in Humor list for the first time yesterday! It's been hovering around the mid-60s in that Top 100. And in a more specific list -- Humor books that are Fiction, Romantic and Contemporary -- it's holding at #5 on Amazon right now...which is to say, THANK YOU!! It wouldn't be anywhere close without your help, supportiveness and enthusiasm. XOXOX

So, I know we've talked about favorite ice cream flavors before (this is not a topic that ever gets old, IMO), but have you tried any new ones recently? Any favorite ice cream creations you've enjoyed this summer? I remember, when I was a kid, we lived near a Bridgeman's Ice Cream Parlor. My favorite flavor there was their Cinnamon -- yum! But I was never old enough (according to my parents) to order their Lollapalooza Ice Cream Sundae, which had 8 scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, 3 cherries and more. I watched in amazement as my aunt ate the whole thing! Well, almost the whole thing. I was about 7 and she gave me one of the cherries. ;) Anyone ever try something like that?!

What a perfect day for me to buy ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAE--now all I need to do is get some nummy ice cream and tuck in to read. Perfect day, anyone?

And for summer ice cream, it's hard to beat peppermint or mint chocolate chip. So refreshing!

Thanks for the shout-out, Soul Sister! ;) I've been catching up on desk work, but I'm getting ready to settle in with ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAE and a pint of Rum Raisin. Love you, girl! xoxo

Pam, my dear, you'd fit right in at our house with your ice cream preferences! Peppermint is my husband's favorite and mint chocolate chip is my son's... I think you and Montana need to come over for dessert soon ;).

Jill, thank YOU for telling me what a special day it was!!! And how could I forget about Rum Raisin?! It was one of our favorite gelato flavors when we visited Italy ages ago... I think we had it 3x in one weekend!

What? Are you kidding me? How did I not know this?
I Love ice cream! I don't even have any in the house. How am I suppose to celebrate this? Well now I'm bummed.

Now that's one holiday I can get behind! In fact, I celebrated by giving myself a little dessert. Yum. Why can't every day be National Ice Cream Day???

Wall-to-Wall~I didn't know it either until Jill (thank goodness!) enlightened me this morning. Our grocery store had pints of Dean's ice cream on sale for 99-cents each, so we got a bunch of them this afternoon to get us started... And don't worry about missing the *Day* -- July is officially National Ice Cream *Month*! We've got 2 full weeks of celebration left ;).

Caryn~I totally agree with you! I fail to understand these limitations put on us. I can see where we might need to vary the celebration days by *flavors*, perhaps, as in: July 15th is Chocolate-Chip Ice Cream Day, July 16th is Butter Pecan Ice Cream Day, July 17th is Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream Day, etc...for all 365 days... Who's with me on this?!

OMG! How could I miss this special day! And I don't have any ice cream in the house. Like Pamela, mint chocolate chip is my fav.

I tried a raspberry cheesecake ice cream a couple weeks ago that wasn't very good. Yet, it still managed to be eaten. Shocking, I know.

Huge congrats on getting into the bestselling list!!!! Totally deserved! It's such a fun book, with great characters and so well written. I enjoyed it immensely.

Edie, thank you!! (I don't think there's any ice cream flavor I won't eat -- just flavors I eat *before* other ones. ;) And CONGRATS to you on the release of Galaxy Girl -- so excited to have another novel of yours available!
