Chocolate Sunscreen

I'm over at the Girlfriends Book Club for the day talking about juggling multiple story ideas in a post called The Writer's Menu -- please stop by!

And, also, I just came across this happy health tidbit, thanks to the Real Age docs, which praises an unknown (at least to me) benefit of chocolate:

The best 100-calorie splurge this summer may be a little candy indulgence that acts like built-in sunscreen: dark chocolate.

Yep, in a recent study, people who snacked on a tiny bit -- just 100 calories -- of flavonoid-rich dark chocolate every day seemed to be more protected from ultraviolet (UV) radiation by the end of the 12-week study.

No one needs to tell me twice!

Here's wishing you all lots of sunshine and dark chocolate this summer ;). And, btw, what are a few of your favorite warm-weather places? Is it your homestate? A tropical island? A distant continent? I always seem to fantasize about being on Maui...

Oooo, best sunscreen tip I've heard EVER! I need to stock up on dark chocolate. For skin protection, of course.

It may not be everyone's favorite, but I can recommend Arizona in April. That's when the desert blooms. Plus, my sister lives there, and we can stay in her guest room. lol

Another perfectly valid reason to adore chocolate! :) Yay!

Edie, I *know*!!! I was so excited when I read that tip that I went out and bought more Ghirardelli ;). And I love Arizona, too, though I've never been lucky enough to be there when the desert was in bloom. I'll bet that's gorgeous ;).

Judy, isn't it great?!! It's not like I needed additional excuses to eat it, but I'll take 'em!

That is GREAT news! Especially since I treat myself to a dark chocolate square (Ghiradelli, of course) every evening after dinner. I'm going to forward this to my husband. He needs to hear it :-)

Well then, obviously if we eat lots and lots of dark chocolate, the sunscreen benefits must be even greater!! :-)

My number one favorite warm, sunny place is Key West, and I also fell in love with Puerto Vallarta last winter. I haven't been to Maui yet, but I'm sure I would love it there too...especially in the middle of a Wisconsin winter!

Caryn~See??! We were right about daily chocolate consumption ALL ALONG! Why did the world not listen to us sooner, hmm?

Brett~You and I agree on just about everything ;). I've got to go to Puerto Vallarta someday...sigh...especially now that I know how lovely it's supposed to be!

Thanks for making me feel better about eating chocolate!

My favorite warm weather spot is Florida, even though I've only been there once.

Nook~I loved Florida, too, and I've only been there a few times ;).
