Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Okay, I am not a single drop Irish. Nothing. No Irishness on my side of the family at all, anywhere... However, my husband is part Irish and, thus, our son is, too. So, there is much green being worn in our household today and, since I've always liked the color, think leprechauns are cute, have a fondness for Shamrock Shakes and consider a pot of gold to be an excellent find, I'm celebrating, too! May the Luck of the Irish (by birth, marriage or friendship) be with you all!

And...to add to the good fortune today of one lucky person, Random.org just helped me draw the winning name of Kelly Moran's book. Congrats to Edie Ramer! You won an electronic copy of Summer's Road! (I'll pass along your email address to Kelly, and she'll email it out to you. :) And below is the link to a treat I hope everyone will like:

Irresistible Irish Soda Bread -- from allrecipes.com
Enjoy!!
p.s. Anyone doing anything special to celebrate the holiday?

I'm not doing anything special today; I need to work late!

I do want to make the Irish Soda bread, though; maybe this weekend.

Thanks for the recipe.

Love the little Irish mouse. Too cute. I've some Irish blood from my Mother's side, but I'm such a mongrel I don't really celebrate specific holidays (Irish/English from Mom's side, Jewish/Afrikaans from Dad's side) would just be too confusing for me! But I do love all things Irish, so wishing everyone a Happy St Paddy's day

This is very cool! I already heard from Kelly. Thank you, Marilyn! I'm looking forward to reading Summer's Road.

My husband and I don't have Irish blood and don't celebrate it, but any holiday is a good holiday. I'll be writing a lot today (I hope). It's gorgeous out now, and I'll take my dogs for a walk soon. That's the extent of my celebration.

Tracey, you're most welcome for the recipe! I hope you'll like it. For me, it's an Irish food I always enjoy ;).

Judy, what a fabulous mix of of backgrounds you have! I think it's fascinating to have such a wonderful cultural combination -- all the interesting traditions you can learn from every side!

Edie, congrats! And, yes, it's just *beautiful* out there today. I'm hoping the UPS package I'm waiting for (and must sign for...) will arrive soon so I can go for a walk, too :).

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Everyone!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Marilyn! My hubby is half Irish so we love the holiday. Thanks for the recipe - I think I might make it today as a surprise for my guys. :)

An Englishman, a Scotsman, and an Irishman walk into a pub. Just as they were about to enjoy their Guiness Beer, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away from him in disgust. The Scotsman fished the offending fly out of his beer and continued drinking. The Irishman too, picked the fly out of his drink, held it out over the beer and then started yelling, "Spit it out, You Bastard!"

Yeah, okay, I'm totally Irish, as if you couldn't tell by my name. xo

Happy St. Patrick's Day Marilyn! I hope that your day was pleasant.

Thanks for the soda bread recipe. It looks yummy and plain, which is fine by the kids and me. When Vince makes it, it has poppy seeds and/or raisins. Which leads to him being the only one eating it, lol.

Hope to see you soon.

Mwah!

Robin, glad you liked the sound of recipe! Hope it turned out well for you if you made it today ;).

Kelly, LOL!!! Okay THAT was really funny :). I just read it to my husband and he laughed, too!

Pamala, ha! Now, see, I'm envious that you have a husband who will bake anything at all for you -- even if it has poppy seeds and raisins in it! My husband has *never* baked... Two decades with that man and not one baked goody... I'm just sayin'! (Mwah, back. ;)

I'm so glad you posted this recipe! I've actually been meaning to make soda bread for some time now. And, coincidentally, I was just wondering what to make for dinner. Problem solved. Well, part of it, at least. No matter how good the bread is, we still need more than that for dinner. :-)

Caryn, I hope it turns out well for you!! I've usually had it with some kind of soup or stew as the main course. Which is reminding me that it's probably time I used my crock pot again and made something with chicken and veggies for dinner... ;)
