It's a Modern Marvel

If I hadn't seen it with my own stunned eyes, held it in my hands and flipped through the pages in awe, I'm not sure I would've believed it...but thanks to the absolutely wonderful Pamela Cayne, I now know there's a comic book in existence that I LOVE.

After decades of never quite getting the allure of the comic-book world, I'm a changed woman. (Cue the chorus of "Hallelujah!" and "Amen, Sister!") The cover on the left shows the first in a five-part limited-edition series that Marvel Comics just released last month on--you guessed it--Pride & Prejudice. Next Wednesday, part two comes out--and, yes, I already have my calendar marked for a field trip to the comic-book store!! Part one has garnered the adoration of fans old and new. Take a look at this article snippet:

Critics agree that Marvel's adaptation of Jane Austen's PRIDE & PREJUDICE is a smash hit and has sold out at Diamond (though copies may be available at the retail level)! Two-time Rita Award-Winner Nancy Butler and acclaimed artist Hugo Petrus present this groundbreaking love story in a way you have never seen before! A passionate story of a strong woman looking for true love, Marvel truly brings this tale of romance and betrayal to life in a manner that any comic book fan will enjoy.

Yeah. Life is good :-).

Wow! I've never been a comic book fan, but I would definitely check this out. Enjoy it, Marilyn!

Have a great weekend and a wonderful Mother's Day!

p.s. Is there anything Pam doesn't know? She's amazing.

Looks great. What a brilliant idea. No substitute for the book, though...

I wonder if you'd email amazon.com to enquire why they can't dispatch my book before October when it's published in June... (readeres int eh USA lagging 5 months behind the rest of the world? surely not!)

Wicked cool timing for you, Marilyn!!! All that fresh attention to "Pride & Prejudice" before your book comes out. Whee

Leigh~you're right, it can't substitute for the book, but it still made me smile reading it :).

Thanks, Lainey! Yeah...possibly too much attention... I suspect there will be a large contingent of people absolutely sick of P&P by the time October rolls around (not ME, of course :-). Hope you have a lovely Mother's Day!

All I can say is Marilyn has me perfectly trained so that anytime I see anything P&P, I think of her!

Alexa~You're so welcome :). I thought your site was such a fantabulous idea!
*For those who haven't seen it, Alexa has up some of the WORST book reviews authors have ever received. It's mind blowing...

Pam~*HUGS* of great appreciation to you, my friend! (And thanks for linking me to P&P, if only in your mind!!! :-)

So awesome for you, Marilyn :) They're really tapping into their fan base here and trying to get younger people interested in classics. It's a win-win.

Thanks, L.A. Can't wait until someone comes out with the comic-book edition of Plato's Republic, though. That is, quite possibly, the only way I'll ever get through that book :).

Oh my gosh, it looks so beautiful! Whoever's responsible must either be a Janeite or in fear of the multitudes of Austen fans who would probably dissect them into little pieces if they'd screwed it up.

I'm glad to get your thumbs up for it and am now off to legitimately follow my husband and sons to the comic book store.

Yay!

LOL, Pamala! I know I'd be one scared artist if I were charged with getting those P&P details perfect enough to satisfy a JASNA member :). I thought Nancy Butler did a great job!
